I am Perplexed

The infamous occultist and founder of the religoius philosophy of Thelema, Edward Alexander Crowley (1875 – 1947) died at Netherwood, a boarding house in the county of East Sussex on the south coast of England on 1. december 1947 at the age of 72.

Marguerite Frieda Bloxam (1877- 1962), known to quite a few as Lady Frieda Harris for her artistic design of Crowleys Thot tarot deck, reported and made famous  “I am perplexed”. But…. Harris never did see Crowley at the very end.

An english novelist and writer of childrens books, John Symonds (1914-2006) met Aleister Crowley in 1946, about a year or so before the old magician died. According to Symonds, a “Mr. Rowe” along with an unknown nurse witnessed Crowleys death and reported his last words to be quite different than what Lady Harris reported. According to Symonds, Crowleys last word was: «Sometimes I hate myself!».

Aleister Crowley was cremated. And the location of his ashes is still unknown.
